"Israeli" Independence DayYom Ha'atzmaut (Israeli Independence Day) - This date, the fifth day of Iyar, marks the day on which the State of “Israel” officially came into existence, with the end of the British Mandate coming on May 14, 1948 - Iyar 5 5708. The anniversary of the establishment of the state of "Israel" is a day of sadness and mourning for Torah-True Jews. Many dress themselves in sack-cloth, a traditional covering to express mourning. On the tragic day of that anniversary Torah True Jews fast and gather in Synagogues around the world to pray. Read what Grand Rebbe Joel Teitelbaum had to say about this day of mourning.
